Rumour gaining ground here (in Hong Kong - dont laff) that Toon are interested in Paul Merson and he said he might be persuaded. That is the sort of aquisition I would go for. Exciting, flair player, who can turn a game on its head

I half jokingly said i would prefer Merson to Yorke this morning on the Yorke thread. I can't see Villa letting him leave, but i think he has a lot to offer elsewhere. He now falls in to the ageing but talented bracket. He gives everything to the team, i like him, but for us?

He's made it no secret he's not been particularly happy with the way Villa is being run. He could do a job for us for the right money.

I like the player (although he can't have much longer left at top level?). I also admire the man for his frankness and his battle against his various addictions. For us? It seems unlikely, although the rumour must be from an impeccable source if it's from Hong Kong.

Merson could be a good buy for us, he's easily Villa's best player, and he puts in 100% all the time which would be appreciated by the fans.

Not only does he work hard but he has some skill which always helps :)

Could he be playing a similar role to Dyer though if he were to sign?
