Name a French Manager that has failed in England? No, i can't either. Should we not recruit a frog as manager next time?

I expressed the same view recently Swift.

Well, knowing the Toon's luck, we'd probably get Inspector Clousseau ("What - you say the Meckems manaiger is a minkey - mon dieu"). And I'm sure that shortly after we did appoint a French manager it would probably then be possible to name one that has failed in England!

Well, I suppose even Kermit couldn't do any worse than TSM and TDO!

Name a non ex-player who has been a success at the Toon except Cox err & Gordon Lee?

I don't understand the question Dave. What are you hinting at? I suppose continuing the gallic connection would be Pirez, who failed to start a first team game.

No, No It doesn't have to be French & an ex-player (although, Ginola) just an ex-player may be better. Ideally someone from the early Keegan era - Bez, Barry, Beardsley, Lee may be tainted by the TSM years.

Most of the managers in France aren't big name ex-players, with the exception of the likes of Platini and Tigana. They also have to spend a lot of time getting their qualifications. I think the FA is heading down that track too, with the likes of Barton and Shearer alreading taking courses.

A potentially great French manager is Alain Perrin, the boss at my local team, Troyes. He's taken them from being an amateur team in the equivalent of the French 4th division to 7th place in the championship and an Intertoto Cup place. To celebrate there was a massive party in the town centre, complete with fireworks!

The only question-mark against someone like Perrin is his ability to deal with big stars. On an annual budget of Carl Cort it's difficult to get too many stars to come and play in Troyes.

For me, the bigger question is why English managers are so crap - who was the last really successful English manager? I hate to say it, but Keegan at the Toon was the last time an English manager pulled up any trees.
