Adapter to use Leica M or L lenses on Contax G1?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Friend of mine would like to know whether there is an adapter that'll enable him to use Leica bayonet or thread mount lenses on his Contax G1. Specifically, he would like to use the Leica 21/2.8 and the Voigtlander 15/4.5 on his G1. If there's such an adapter, where can he order one? Many thanks in advance for your responses.

I'm afraid your friend is barking up the wrong tree. The G1 is a fully automated auto focus point and shoot. Even if there was a way to physically mount the lenses, I don't see how the camera would be able to recognize f stops for exposures, and I doubt you'd be able to get infinity focus.A Bessa L body sells for about $200--certainly less than what a custom adapter would sell for.

Several New York dealers offer V'lander 15's that have been converted for G1/G2 use. But they cost about $2000...cheaper to buy the V'lander body and lens together or buy a used Zeiss Hologon-G ($1600-1700).

Thanks guys! Will let friend know. He just prefer a G body and M lenses, so it looks like he'll have to get the Hexar RF!

Check with srbfilm@aol.com, they make reverse rings, instrument adapter, adapter from camera to camera, enlarger adapters, stepping rings, tripond lens mounts etc, even on one off custom basis
