greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I got R8 body and I tryed to connect with PC sync cord and it didn't fire flash and I tryed with my other camera ,it worked without any problem .cord and my storb light are fine . And I tryed with M6 and had same problem . Is this because of the socket lieca using ? My sync cord had no problem with my light meter either . Anyone had same problem before ? I am using cord made by paramount . Thanks

What flash are you hooking them to? The M6TTL and the R8 (and all the other new TTL flash cameras) have electronically controlled flash sync and do not like very high sync voltages. Old flashes and studio flashes can have very high sync voltages in the order of 200 to 300 volts. If this is the case, there are adapters available to reduce the sync voltage down to an acceptable level. Check with your camera store.

It may just possibly be the socket itself, I have two M6's and use metz flashes with them, the PC connection works sporadically but the hotshoe always. This can be extremely annoying. However, Rowi make a hotshoe to hotshoe cord which also has a non-hot shoe on the end that goes on top of the camera and this can be usd with external viewfinders also, which is how I solved the problem.

Flash is not the M6's strong point! Since using the M's I've more or less turnd my back on flash, which has been quite liberating in some ways. But when you need it you really need it. At which point a lot of fiddling about is required.

I'm not familiar with 'R' series Leicas as I prefer Nikon SLRs, but on my M6TTL the flash does not fire if the shutter speed is set to any speed above 1/50th of a second. Do note that this is the maximum shutter speed you can use with flash so maybe your Leicas are set to something higher.
