Squad Size?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

We currently have about 30 in the first team squad and that even includes Chopra and Offiong.

In the hazt days of Gullits reign we had around 38-40 players in the squad.

What is the ideal squad size? Given our injury record we should have a big squad but conversely we need to keep the wage bill down.

I would assume we have enough space and wage capacity for another five players but I can't see us signing five players!

Tow decent signings and Robbie Elliot on a free transfer seems to be the likely outcome.

It would be good to see the first team lining up with the numbers one to eleven but I suppose that is dreaming in this modern era.

Depends on how you look at Glass if he signs a new contract. No one has thought of him in their plans for next season and you might consider him a new signing if he stays. I agree with you it looks difficult to bring in five new names but at that Peru fella, Glass, Elliot, a striker and a left midfielder. Thats five "new" signings.

If I'm happy with them if the striker and midfielder is top class and if Hildaglo is on a years loan.

Daily Star (reported on Guardian Unlimited) says Bobby is going on a Geordie recruitment drive to sign Watson, Elliot and Clark.

Excellent! I'm a Geordie and have been known to score once or twice. Can somebody make up a nice song for me please?
