EOS 1V HS - Full time Depth of Field Preview

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

What does this actually mean: Full time depth of field preview. I had an A2 which required the user to push the exposure lock button in order to preview the depth of field. Does the 1V enable this feature continuously so it doesn't have to be activated at all? If so, it seems like the battery would drain more quickly in enabling this feature.

Sue: I own the EOS 1V HS, and I don't recall Canon advertising this camera's DOF Preview function as being "full time". That said,if Canon or someone else has referred to the 1V's DOF Preview in this manner, it may simply mean that the camera has a DEDICATED DOF Preview button, unlike for example the EOS A2, in which a custom fxn must be set to use the AE-Lock button as a DOF Preview button. However, in the latter case, one is trading AE-Lock for DOFP, whereas cameras like the 1V or 1N have a dedicated DOFP button, and this may be what some are referring to as "full time". At any rate, you must push the button to activate the DOFP, and after you release the button, DOFP is over until you press the button again.
