canon Elan II @ 28-135 IS survive tough treatment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

This is a compliment on equipment, and not a question, and this post may get axed. My Elan II with 28-135 IS mounted on it survived a major fall in the Louvre, flying through the air and landing upside down (on the onboard flash side) on a marble floor in the Louvre. Nothing rattled, appeared broken or damaged, autofocus, zoom and image stabilization eemed to work fine so I kept taking pictures for the next three days. All my slides turned out perfectly. This to me, was a major test of the toughness of this equipment, and I compliment Canon on its survival Carolyn Hammett

I have an Elan IIe that has never been dropped, but that had a chip go bad causing the meter to go totally wacko (5 or 6 full stops off). That took a month or so to get fixed. Now, problems are emerging in either the autofocus or shutter release system. The camera won't always fire when I push the shutter button. It's not a problem with the button because the problem occurs with the horizontal and vertical release. Very pleased with metering accuracy and performance (when it's working right). Maybe I just got a lemon.
