When was the last time you read aloud to someone, or had someone read aloud to you?

My parents have always enjoyed reading to each other, and I really dig it, too. When was the last time you read something (chapters in a book, poetry, ...) to someone else just for fun? That includes your kids.

I remember seeing my dad and step-mom reading to each other and I thought it was really cool. So I've done some reading with my wife, and it can be fun. I've even thought of doing a sort of abridged "book on tape" for her, where I read something to her and record it. If you have kids, think about how cool that would be for them to have as they grow up and as you grow old!

My older sister, who will be 40 this year, loves for me to read to her like we are little kids. Usually it's around xmas and she wants me to read Frosty the Snowman or something....

I read to my kid a lot. But, the most fun I've had reading to someone lately were selected excerpts from "The Story of O" to a, um, friend.

It's been a while. I was supposed to be at a conference in late February and with a few co-workers. However, we decided to skip an afternoon to stretch our legs and see the city. We were in Austin and had just gone to Book Woman, a feminist bookstore. From there we were treking to San Marcos (45 minutes away or so w/traffic) to the outlet stores and I was driving and a friend read from Bell Hooks, Feminism is for Everybody (Everyone?). This is where I first became aquainted with the term "patriarchal violence". Of course after the first chapter a great conversation ensued. We really bonded that day.

Before that, it has been a long time. It is the nicest feeling though.

The Fella and I read to each other. We're doing the long-distance thing at the moment, so we don't see each other often enough, but when we get together, we spend some time reading to each other. We really enjoy it.

We were on a trip to New York in March, and I was feeling poorly one afternoon. He curled up in bed with me and read to me.

I don't mean to be negative, but I *hate* when people read to me. Both my boyfriend and my best friend do this all the time. Usually they're reading me something funny or interesting from the newspaper or a magazine. It makes me grit my teeth. I would much rather have someone point the passage out and hand me the book. I've tried to explain it and interrupt before they get too far into it, but it's hard to do it without being mean, so I keep it to myself. I have no idea what it is about people reading aloud to me that bugs me so much. I hated it in school and I hate it now... this from a person who loves audio books (I know, it makes no sense).

I gave my best friend, among other things, a specially-selected group of children's books for her 26th birthday last month. I climbed in bed beside her on a cool spring afternoon (she had been napping) and read all of the books to her. It was cosy and nice. :-)
