Out of interest, why is the first answer on any thread always from the person who posted the question?

It's so that folks only need call up recent answers to see all the threads. I prefer my postings to die quietly if nobody is interested but each to their own.

nufc.com say it resulted from a bad, late challenge - nice way to say thank you for opening Exeter's new stand, eh. Bumpkin toss pots.

Someone like Gallagher you mean?

According to icNewcastle, bad sprain. Also Harper injured his neck and O'Brien has bruising on his shin.

Instead of China, maybe a better idea for preseason Chez Steadman in Denver.

The Ronnie quotes BR as saying CC's ankle has swollen up very badly, and that "something is not right with it"! He is to have an x-ray, but at this stage they are expecting it to take 2 months.
How on earth they can estimate a recovery time when they have no idea at this stage what is wrong with it is just another of the eternal mysteries under the banner of NUFC!!!

Perhaps someone can tell me what possible justification there was for risking our top pros in an utterly meaningless game at Exeter, after the season has finished.
In the Journal yesterday it was stated that the Exter Chairman asked Bobby to open an extension to their Stand, but Bobby decided to do much more than that, and offered to play them in a friendly.
Absolutely top decision Bobby - with three players picking up injuries, perhaps someone should have told the Exeter players it was only a friendly fixture. Exasperated!!!!!

O my fucking god! When is this nightmare gonna end =[

Ya, stupid dorks in Exeter, looks go there and burn their stupid stand =[

Where's the Darlington chairman when you need him? :-)

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

Hey - he could have stumbled over a loose paving stone in Blyth (if there's an left). But who in their right mind would let them near any loose paving stones in Blyth? Bizzarre.

The club can't wrap the players in cotton wool (half of them would almost certainly collapse with an allergic reaction) during the close season. There are always games like this to be played and players always run the risk of injury no matter what the opposition.

A few years ago we lost Shearer in a meaningless match at Everton in the pre-season build up, and sadly, I don't think he's ever been the same since. Can't be helped. Rub of the green, but you would hope we'd have more luck than this.

Small mercies - he does have a while to recover.

but is there any space left in the treatment room?

-- Anonymous, May 24, 2001

Newcastle United today announced to the Stock exchange that they had put on hold their plans to introduce a youth academy and to build new training facilities.

The reason given for this was that they were instead to invest in a state of the art treatment room. This would allow them great benefits in reducing the recovery time that key players needed from their injuries.

Another hoped for benefit was that the facility would allow them to do extensive tests on new signings so they could assess in which areas they would most likely suffer injuries and order in remedial equipment in advance.

The club stated they hoped to complete the facility after the summer. It is believed they are looking to buy the Leazes Terrace block of housing to accommodate the facility.

Is this a wind up?

You needed to ask DeB? you been out on the lunchtime pop? ;))

Beg to differ Jonno, mate.

Pre-season games have a definite purpose - that is to provide match practice for the players to sharpen them up for real competition, after achieving the desired fitness levels.

Risking very expensive players to 3rd or 4th Division cloggers in an utterly meaningless game, AFTER the season has finished, serves NO useful or desirable purpose, and goes neatly into the file marked "INCREDIBLY DUMB DECISIONS". I thank you.
