Leap into Digital Photography? D30

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hello all,

I have a EOS 650, which I bought used about 2 months ago. Although the AF is a little slow it is a fun camera. I have gotten some really good shots with it. I would like to ask those on the BBS who have gone digital(with the D30), does the D30 completely replace your old EOS(or other SLR), do you find it lacking in print quality, and is it worth the investment? I am interested in getting a D30 to eliminate film hassles and wasted oppurtunities from bad shots. I have a cheap digital camera now and love it's metering. I can take shots in totally dark situations without a flash and get great results, but with film, the dark is my enemy.

I am want to get a higher level camera(1V, 1NHS or 3), but feel digital is the wave of the future.

Thanks for your time and patience in deciphering what I am trying to ask!

Dave

What do you intend to do with your pictures? Make 4x6 prints? Show slides? Put them on the web? Make 20x30 posters?

Thanks for your answer Bob,

I want it as an all around replacement for my 650. I want to take all kinds of stuff, but do not need slides.

I found a really good review for the D30 here:

Some really nice photos as well. He answered all my questions pretty well, but I would like to hear from anyone who has fully taken the jump from film to digital. I just want to know if the D30 will perform as well as an SLR and will help me become a better photographer. I am worried that I will not learn some of the essentials as well because of the different medium.

Thanks, Dave
