Flowers for Ken

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

All, I'd like to send some flowers to Ken's funeral whenever that may be, I imagine a few others feel the same way and I feel it might be a nice gesture if we send some from the bbs rather than individuals.

Would someone like to organise a collection?

I'll get in touch with Ken's wife and see what she would like us to do, whether flowers are appropraite or whether charity dontions are the order of the day.

Just spoke to Mrs Ken.

There has to be a coroners inquest, presumably cos it happened so quickly. They haven't sorted out things out but she thinks there will be a cremation, next Tuesday (don't know whether that means the 22nd or the 29th, sorry, I wasn't particularly in control of my half of the conversation).

She was pleased to hear that we had all found out as she knew the bbs was important to him and she was keen we all knew. I tried to explain about all the messages but wasn't very good at it, I said I'd print off all the messages and send them to her.

On the subject of flowers v charity donation she said the British Heart Foundation was the choice. His mum had died of a heart problem and that was where he had shown most interest. I said I'd collect any donations and forward them to her as a lump sum. (I am presuming everyone is okay with this, if not then e-mail me for their home address). We'll see how things go but I feel having read the messages we should send collective flowers on the day and any other monies for charity.

Not being funny Mac but you probably want to remove your address and Ken's address cos of the mackem lurkers....just send em to people who request via e-mail.....

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2001

Gav, I've removed Ken's but I'm okay about mine.

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2001

Ahh but it's you that they don't like :)))

-- Anonymous, May 21, 2001

Well done Mac for putting up your hand again. It always takes one or two individuals to actually organise what everyone wants. As you may alreay be aware in Oz we're in the process of getting something organised as well as it's probably easier done that way.

By way of a suggestion for folk to at least think about - how do people feel about excess monies being used to purchase a floor brick for ITK on the walkway outside the Milburn stand ?

There's a few issues here, not least the Heart Foundation mention and especially sensitivities towards Ken's family who would clearly need to be consulted. For all I know he may already have purchased one, or it may be something that they would rather do for him. But having got to know the man as I have, on here at least, I think he may agree that favourite charities don't come a lot bigger than NUFC !! Thoughts ?

PS. anyone know the current whereabouts of the book "Season Ticket", another one of ITK's ideas ?

Nice idea Looney....I would've thought knowing how people have responded to his tributes that we'd have no problem organising flowers, a brick and a donation to the heart foundation....I guess we'll just have to wait and see though....I think it's a lovely idea though....

Loony,

The books with me, as it has been for months. I am going to send it to Bud tomorrow as he said that he would like to sign it before it's sent back to the family. I am extremely pissed off with myself for not sending it on sooner, or sending Ken the photo of me with it. Sorry to everyone that has been waiting for it.

Divven't flog yourself over the book Kegsy. It goes without saying that none of us were to know this was about to happen. I'm sure his family will be glad you've looked after the book though when they get it back as it will be another grand way of remembering him by

£25 in the post today. Personally I think something more lasting than flowers may be more appropriate, but his family may think otherwise. I leave it to your judgement McB.

Never met the chap unfortunately, but always appreciated his comments. God rest his soul.

Wonderful idea, Gav. Contribution on way.

Just to reassure. I've received this morning letters from Nick, Jacko, Gav, Pete, and the Sears Corporation

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Wow that was fast, i thought the post up in Jockland would've been much slower ;))

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Contribution from Ciara and myself on the way.

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Mac - can you please confirm when you receive my letter. Only had 2nd class stamp, so probably get it tomorrow. Thanks for doing all of this.

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Gav, there has been some major investment up here recently, they now change ponies every 10 miles

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Cooooooollll!!!!! ;))

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Only 2nd class stamp on mine aswell.

It's funny how nowadays old technology (ie snail mail) actually seems more amazing than new technology. It's somehow more impressive how they transport a flimsy bit of paper from a postbox in say London to an address in Fife within a day, than sending digitalised info down a phone line.

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2001

Ponies just in with letters from Clarky and Steph/Ciara. We stand at £175 so far.

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

Mac,

excuse my stupidity but are people sending cheques made out to the British Heart Foundation? It might make it tricky to get that Brick!

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

No, the cheques have either been to me, or blank (to me). I'm going to pool them all and then sort out the various places to split it out to.

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

OK Thanks, I'll pop one in the post tonight. (From Germany so be patient).

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

Me too - but I'm travelling to Belfast and may take time to sort it.

Interflora are off to price up a football shaped, black and white, posy. They will look to spray white flowers black to get the mix, and will be looking at black and white ribbons.

We need to come up with a message for the card. Anyone ?

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

Cheque in postr today.

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

You could just attach the list of tributes from here to the flowers....

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

Yeah sounds cool good. I'll make two copies, one to send to Jenny and one to accompany the flowers.

-- Anonymous, May 23, 2001

Ken's Funeral is to be on Friday, 1st June at 2.30pm.

MacBeth - this gives you a bit more time to get everything together if you need it.

The funeral is in Ruislip.

Thanks Alec
