Quinn. Has Bobby made a mistake?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Its seems to me reading between the lines that Bob may be regretting signing Quinn. Do you agree?

canny lad, trier, average crosser, i think guppy might have been a better bet, but , hey, we had him once before!

I think he was in a real hole after Domi left. He didn't have money to spend (cos the Domi money went somewhere else ??) so he took a short term view, spent less than a million on a squad player. The guy is great to have on the bench but being harsh he has all the abilities to be the new centre parting, although he hsan't learned to clap yet

He could have got Elliot back for half a million a few months ago, that would have been a bit more sensible

He can get Elliott back for nowt now - he's out of contract. That makes even more sense.

As for Quinn - the lad's never played at this level before, has come into a team playing utter cr@p, has only had a wide left-sided m/f player in front of him on one occasion so far - an excuse £4mm Didier Domi rode for two seasons - and yet he's written off before his Toon career has even begun.

Every other misfit from JDT through Maric to Bassedas has had apologist's happy to give them time to settle in, get used to the team pattern, language, PL pace, canteen pies etc, etc.

As an example, Bassedas has been here a full season, has looked like a large bag of sh*te on every occasion he's played, but he's still tolerated without criticism. In contrast, Quinn was written off after his 2nd game.

The guy cost £800k - the sort of money NUFC have been p*ssing away every month for years on the Treatment Room residents. Bassedas cost £3.5-4.5 million, depending on who you believe, and hasn't given even a half-decent performance yet - in fact to me he hasn't even shown the first semblance of being worth that sort of money. However, I feel it's right to give him this season to settle in, and start to judge him around Xmas time next season. For god's sake let's apply the same criteria to a English lad who cost virtually nowt, and may not prove to be the answer, but he certainly isn't all that bad. Give him a bloody chance!

I think it's the fact that Quinn couldn't get into a second division team, but walks straight into our side that makes people wonder why we have bought him. With English players, you expect them to fit in straight away and be virtually at their best soon after signing them. Foreigners can take longer , thats why there is more patience with the likes of Bassedas.

Ooooh 2 good postings one after the other. Each in turn had me convinced so now I'm completely confused. Or have I just had too many bottles of Crown ?

Nah on 2econd thoughts Clarky's on the money and Rik's just peddling cliches. Which come to think of it makes a pleasant change from him peddling pokeanuns or whatever the latest kids fad is if yer think about it

The fact that Quinn wasn't a regular in the Sheff U team means precisely nothing - they are hardly being overwhelmed by success, so it's just possible they aren't exactly getting everything right. Presumably he had a similar problem at Sheffield to the one Stephen Glass has at the Toon.

I'm not saying he's Roberto Carlos, but he cost next to nowt so at least give the guy a reasonable chance. To be honest, I think the fact that he cost so little in some peoples minds automatically equates to him being worthless.

Quinn looked poor against charlton, and hasn't impressed since then.
