Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED - Any experiences with it and slides?

I have an Nikon N80 with which I have begun shooting Kodachrome 64 and Velvia 50 slide film. I shoot primarily for artistic and landscape shots. I have had a horrible experience scanning the slides with my current slide scanner-a Minolta Dimage Scan Dual. Since the optical density is only 3.0, I fear this is the culprit. It scans negatives with no problem. Slides come out dark and almost impossible to fix digitally although they look fine viewed through the projector or a loupe. I am looking for any experience with the new Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED. With an optical density of 4.2, I think this can do the job with thick emulsions, but cannot find any dealer that is willing to hook one up to demonstrate it.
