Anyone heard this?

Apparently there's going to be a big announcement from the club on Friday. I know Bobby mentioned in his recent rant that there'll be more to come on Friday.

Is it linked? Has he had enough? After all he's on a rolling 12 month contract.

Let the speculation commence...

I can't see Robson quitting.

I don't think it will be to announce the sale of players, although it may be to announce the release of the free transfers

It may be to announce the signing of a new player or two but unlikely before a match

Appointing a new memeber of staff?

Announcing a new development on the training facilities or Youth Academy?

He won't be announcing how much he has to spend, that would be foolish

Could it be that he is signing a two year contract with the second year being in an advisory role to the new manager who will be appointed at the end of next season, identity unknown at this stage?

What's left!?

What's left. Telling the season ticket holders they are having to move to make way for more corporate boxes.

Robson wouldn't take an announcement like that on the chin, "this one's yours Freddie", he would say!!

It'll be about the Academy finally being built...I wouldn't hold your breath for anything earth shattering

At least that would be good news.

Solano is to be swapped for Don Hutchinson?

Newcastle have re-housed the Badgers at Ponteland and the training ground can go ahead?

Or

Kevin Keegan is to return to Newcastle's coaching staff.

straightforward. friday is a typical pre match press conference.

Bobby meant if he has forgotten anything or his anger doesn't cease its another chance.

I would not expect much more.

Either that or Bobs gonna 'out' Gav...

The following is an extract from what The Ronnie reported BR to have said at his Press conference:

Under-pressure Newcastle boss Bobby Robson has put his blueprint for next season before chairman Freddie Shepherd.

Robson, seething at what he considers to be unwarranted public flak over United's season, has earmarked a striker and a wide left player as his priority signings. Now he's waiting to see if he's backed personally as well as financially in his efforts to re-build United.

An obviously agitated Robson insisted: "I know what I want, I know where to get the players, and I'll put things right given the opportunity. There's money available but the place isn't swimming in it as some would have people believe(!).

It would appear he has presented his "plan" for improving the playing squad to the Board for their approval. I would expect any plan put forward by Bobby to be realistic, and mindful of the financial constraints he knows the Club are operating under.

IMHO, if the Board now are not prepared to back this plan, Bobby should resign, and ideally tell the fans precisely why he has resigned.

If he stays on under those circumstances, next season will be no better than this, and probably much worse.
What's worse, he will get the blame, and he will end his career with a major failure at what he clearly regards as his Club.

He should not tolerate this, and I only hope the bit of flak he has received recently, and reacted so vigorously to, has caused him to carefully think this through.

For what it's worth, my guess would be that any major announcement at this juncture could either be with regard to a significant impending signing, or the appointment of Alan Shearer as Assistant Manager.

Substitute "as some people would have us believe" with "that knakka would have us believe" and Douglas might keep half his trap shut in the future. Robson doesn't need this kind of crap at this stage in his life, he deserves to be working with professionals and instead he gets Toot & Ploot.

The two mayor signings this summer will the two one already told by BR in the post above. A left midfielder, Sikora or somebody else, and a striker. No more midfielders will come cause he have signed Bassedas and Acuna and still have Speed and Lee and will we know he will keep the last two and also give the South Americans another year. Right we have Solano and Dyer and neither of them will leave either.

In defence he has strengtend the squad with O'Brien and Quinn and have back up players for every position.

I dont think this is enough but this is what we'll get. My bet is 4 or 5 new players in the summer. 2 larger signings and 2-3 on younger/squad players.

And ya. Glass will be handed a new contract and will be cover up for the new mayor signing on left midfield. If not Quinn will fill that position.

Yes, that was why I highlighted that phrase, Tony.

What kind of senior Director is it we have when Bobby Robson is now the fourth member of management to have to try to publicly ameliorate what that buffoon blabbed all over the newpapers. He just opens his gob and out it pours - verbal diarrheoa!

Would we support him in approving £20m for a wide man & a striker? I'd like to know who & I'd like to know how the unimaginative void in the centre is going to be filled.

-- Anonymous, May 17, 2001

Yes we would support him Dave - unfortunately it will probably cost us £30mm for the same two players following his unintelligent bragging.

Like you I'm really concerned about the apparent lack of desire to consider what the fans can see is a crying need to improve the creativity in central m/f. It seems clear from articles in the Ronnie tonight that BR intends to play RL/GS in central m/f again next season, although he does say he should be able to get 25 games out of Rob Lee. This raises the obvious question of who will play in the other 25 games? I can't say I like the obvious answer.
