People. Yesterday. Full of rain and wetness. Huge thunderstorm last night. I was blinded by lightening.

And oh yeah. I left my rear passenger window down. Stinky, bubbly leather. Suhweet.

Answers

Ooh, yum. Stinky, bubbly leather.

Y'all, I think my back is broke. Or I have some crazy old person thing. I need Doan's pills. And a heating pad.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Is it from throwing your PC thru the window?

annachao.com still no come up for me!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

It's from throwing everything through the window, including the cat.

It won't come up? Weird. I can see it fine. You have to see Pharmacist Rock Star! Man!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

The Sassinator? That could show up on his next album.

I can't get into annachao.com either.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Damn, y'all. Why can I get in and y'all can't? Hate.

M, I did a page for Matt--the Pharmacist Rock Star advice column thing, but I haven't put it up yet. It's funny.

Y'all send me some questions to ask. drugsrock@annachao.com.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Y'all.

Squishy.

The Wedding Etiquette thread. The Nice Girl thread.

Killing me.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

AB -I even tried linking to it and nuthin. I'll keep checking. I'm sure it's faburous though. Drugsrock. Hee.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I guess my server is down, but only for MATH. Fuck ass.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I can get into An Bei, no problem.

I numbah one special reader! It's probably because I was born in the year of the Dragon. Or something.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

T - you're saying people who register at ALL these places, not that the above places are bad to register at. Right? Because that's not really clear.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

T numbah one! Check this out: http://www.annachao.com/pharm.html

I'm reading that thread right now. Some of these people are just wrong, wrong.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Right - people who register everywhere.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I wanted to register at Crate & Barrel so much when we got married. None in teeny little Monroe, though.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Who the F would register at Tower Records? Can you even imagine? I mean, can you even DO that? What would be the reson? So someone could buy you cds? This ain't your birthday! You need towels!

I, too, am assed out of AB.com.

There are a few new Survivors up on HYD, though. http://www.hateyourdaddy.com/survivor.htm

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

We'll probably do Macy's, which will have New Orleans, Atlanta, and DC covered, and maybe Williams Sonoma, but only because they have the most beautiful table linens. You can get the All Clad pots that we're lusting after at Macy's, so that's no problem.

Right now, we're debating non-stick versus regular. I think we'll go for regular, but with non-stick skillets, and both a regular and a non-stick chef's pan.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Who the F would register at Tower Records? Can you even imagine? I mean, can you even DO that? What would be the reson? So someone could buy you cds? This ain't your birthday! You need towels!

I KNOW! I mean, it's about setting up housekeeping, giving the couple things that they'll need for their new life together. Towels. Pots. Things that you rarely buy for yourself. CD's and camp stoves just don't qualify. And besides, if you both love to go camping, etc., chances are you have a friend who knows that and who will buy your gift accordingly.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I would like to cast my vote for non-stick. But I'm all lazy.

Also, for those of you who want pretty pots and pans that are also cheap, Martha Stewart has cool khaki ones at K-Mart. I want them.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I mean, two places is really the cut off, right? T - I would be assed out of Macy's.

Actually, I was reading on emilypost.com that theme showers are okay now. Like - if the couple's been living together, and they don't really need a lot of help with housekeeping, you can throw a theme shower: gardening, honeymood, spa etc.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Allison, the AJC food section just did a pan review, and apparently, the Martha pots are great.

My only fear is taht the nonstick wouldn't endure. I mean, we have a lot of fancy nonstick utensils for the nonstick pots we have now, but I worry that they wouldn't endure, and in twenty years, I'd have gray flakey things on my omelettes.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

T, we did a Second Line at our wedding, too. Music provided by Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs, the best wedding band ever invented.

The backup singers were called the Moonbeams. How can you go wrong with that?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Joh, the Macy's registry covers Macy's, Rich's, Lazarus, and apack of other places.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

The exceptions from the norm that I like are when people register at Home Depot. I had some friends who were insane about their yard and landscaping - the guy in the couple is an architect - and someone offered to throw him a lawn and garden shower.

He was feeling all left out, anyway, because he didn't get to go to any of the showers - because, he said, "I like dishes, too!" - so he agreed.

We made him register at Home Depot and all bought him hoses and spades and stuff. I believe someone got him a weedwacker. The man was more grateful than I've ever seen any bride.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

AB, do you think they'd go to New Orleans? The food and the band (and the liquor, duh) are my top reception priorities.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I know they would. Somebody from our family booked them in Slidell for something or other after our wedding. Want their contact info?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

AB's about to lose her mind for those khaki pots of Martha's. I want some, too, but I have some decent pots that I might as well keep until... you know... until the end of time, I guess.

I vote for the non-stick as well. Seriously, you burn something in one of the regulars one time and you're screwed.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I'm a fan of the Home Depot gift certificate. You can't go wrong there.

Chris is adamant about couple showers. He wants nothing to do with them, at all. I told him that he needs to expect at least one. Realistically, we'l have bigger parties in New Orleans, DC, and Atlanta, and showers in both New Orleans and Atlanta. He's afraid.

We're forunate that we already have a wall of great appliances - we have a brand-new toaster, a bread machine, a KitchenAid, a kick-ass coffeemaker, a George Forman, two rice cookers, and a big and little food processor. Plus, I have 24 place settings of Blue Willow, which we'll use for our everyday stuff. That way, if people want to shop from the registry, they can get us the All Clad's that we're lusting after. Oh, and knives. We love knives.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

My pots are fine, too. But the Martha ones are khaki, y'all. They would match, you know, me!

Also, I want some new fabulous kitchen knives. Mine won't cut butter. T, what do you recommend?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

AB, yes, the contact info would be great. We'll give them good food and liquor, too. Were they expensive?

MAybe when you get your new iMac you could order the Martha khaki pots online.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I don't think too expensive, but my mom told me their price went up. I'll have to go look for the info.

They've got the Martha pots online? Dear God.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Well, we mainly have Wusthofs. They're made in Solingen, Germany. If you happen to be in Germany, you can buy off-brand Wusthofs - we have one of those. We have several Wusthof Classics - they're really well-balanced, and they'll last a lifetime. We also have two Global knives - they're Japanese and they're very Iron Chef looking. They're great, too, especially for vegetables. You can get Wusthofs at Williams-sonoma and about everywhere else that sells really good knives. I bought my Globals at a kitchen shop here in Atlanta.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I think Bobby Flay uses Global knives. Man, they're pricey, too, aren't they? They look it. But I want to cut things like a real chef.

Johnny Earthquake, etc. has a website!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Oh my god, one of the guys in that band has a PhD.

I must have them.

http://www.lsmsa.edu/RAllen/bindex.html

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Y'all, I just looked for the Martha pots on KMart.com and... uh... a bunch of good crap is on clearance!

Stop me before I drown myself in linens!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Gaah! They have a horn section! I'm going to call them right now to check on the date.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

He wrote an effing book about Walker Percy, T. That makes me so happy.

Yes, you must have them. They were so good, too.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

...And, on of the Moonbeams is named Velveetha.

They will be mine.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Yes, you cannot pass up Velveetha. Seriously.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Y'all. It's pronounced Velveeta. I loved her. She snuck me out the back of the country club to smoke.

Check this out: http://www.bluelight.com/store/ProductRedirect.jhtml?PRODID=2110202

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Yay! I just talked to Rodney of the Moonbeams and they are avaialble next Memorial Day weekend. He said that a wedding gig in New Orleans would run around $3K. I have no idea if that's reasonable or not.

But, he's sending me a video and all the information.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

The Martha BABY stuff! Waaaaah! Master V better get crackin', is all I'm saying.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I think it might be, T. I want to say they were around $2000 for us, and their price has probably gone up since 1999.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I mean, for a 12-piece band with backup singers and a horn section, I think it's reasonable.

Oh well. I'm off to lunch.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Velveetha. Love it.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I'm going to try to find something to heal my aching back.

Be back latah.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

T - I think your response in the Nice Girl thread has done gone and stumped the "nice" girls.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

What? Was I a L_L?

Y'all. My car. Depolarized battery. So sad.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

What does that mean, T? Did you have to jump it?

I updated. Boring. Now lunch.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Jumping won't work. It's not the alternater (thank god), because all the windows, the top, the lights, the radio, everything else works.

I called my trusty VW mechanic and the VW dealership, and they both told me that it sounds like the little polarized thingies have knocked themselves loose and are shorting out when I try to start the car, explaining why this was a gradual thing - a few nights ago, the car paused a moment before it started, and why yesterday and this morning, the car didn't start on the first few tries.

Thank god for State Farm, is all I'm saying.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I love AAA.

It's pouring here. Craziness.

Al - why was it too late to talk about the weekend?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I'm back.

Ah, well, you know, the weekend was several days ago and now it's not timely. Whatever. The only thing I really might have written about was Omar's show, and I did that.

I'm just not ready to write about Chris in the journal much, in that "I love my boyfriend" sort of way. Trying to keep that stuff on the DL for a while.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Because of your nosy friends?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I liked it when you said you could build a house out of cheese.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Damn. An Bei is still down.

T - someone is seeking your guidance in the etiquette thread.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Gaah! You didn't mention that it was Flaya, and that she used the words "traditional" and reply cards" in the same sentence!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I want to update so badly, but I'm just too tired to keep a coherant thought. Damn!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

M, where the hell have you been?

Why are you tired, yo? Did you take the new girl out again?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I've been around. Just busy. And there wasn't a whole lot I could add to the pots and pans conversation.

No, but we're going out Saturday. I need a good idea of something to do.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Ooh! Ooh! Ket's see, you live in a cool city - there must be something to do...

Are there planetariums nearby? Planetariums always make great early (relatoinship-wise) dates.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I did have this little picture of you in my mind sitting over on the side, flipping through Sports Illustrated while we talked about dishes. Sorry about that.

Something to do? Dinner. Walk around. Go see a play. I don't know.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I've come to the conclusion that although I am actually a very good speller, I'm a terrible typist.

I can't wait until Flaya gets engaged, if only so I can stand back in horror as she updates her journal.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Planetarium. Interesting. I'm sure we have one somewhere. I'll check.

This one might just be dinner if I can't think of anything else, but I want to avoid the rut of doing that all the time. It's a little dull. I may do something like that for this one, so we'll get to talk.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

You could do something in Old Town so y'all can do the strolling and talking thing. Water and all. Pretty.

I like planetariums because it's always nice to stare up at stars, even if they're fake ones, if the show is corny, y'all can laugh about it over dinner, you can watch all the interesting people who tend to frequent planetariums, and when you live in a city where you hardly ever see stars, it's especially nice and relaxing to stare up at them for a while.

Of course, if it's the Pink Floyd laser light show that night, you may want to stay away.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I actually have been to a Pink Floyd Laser Light show. But I was a freshman.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Flaya and her 21 year old boyfriend... going to the chapel. Whatever.

I guess this time of the year, everybody has wedding fever. I certainly do, as well.

I think the planetarium is a cool idea.

Ok, not to get us back on Martha Stewart, but I just bought that duvet cover that was on clearance. I had to, y'all.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Allison, I think that buying the duvet cover was a good idea. If it's somethign you love and it's only $40, go for it. You'd probably buy a new one after the move, anyway, so there's no reason not to get one now.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I can always depend on you to justify my irrationalities, T. Actually, it's an excellent price. But now I have three duvet covers. Ahem. That's ok, right? I mean, can you have too many?

And they'll fit the MOC's bed, which we'll be using as our bed, so, that's all good.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

You know, Al, it's interesting that Southern Living doesn't have a wedding issue. I would buy one in a heartbeat, and I bet I'm not alone.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

You are so right. Perhaps we should propose to do one.

Huh. I've never even thought of that. I wonder why they don't... hmm.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I'd be lying if I even claimed to know what a duvet cover is.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

It is an excellent price. I have several duvet covers, actually - i change them seasonally. I have a darker floral one that I use during the fall and winter, and a white matlesse one that I use in the spring and summer. Of course, there are corresponding sheets for each. Unfortunately, they don't fit Chris' queen bed, only my full. The guest room always looks nice, though.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I think a Southern Living wedding issue would be a great thing to propose. Seriously, I am really surprised that they don't have one. It's such a perfect match - Martha Stewart, as comprehensive as she can be, is really geared towards Northern brides. There is a need for information on seasonal flowers, traditions, menus, etc., that only Southern Living can properly fill.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Mike, you know how people have a down comforter, and because those are always white, they'll put a cover over it? That's a duvet cover.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Ah.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Yeah, my full sheets won't fit Chris' bed, either. And I have some nice sheets and of course, he does not. I curse the day I ever bought a full bed. Why did I do that?

See? We're doing it again. Leaving the Bermanater out. Um... let's talk about basketball. Go Spurs!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

No, that's fine. I'm slogging through an update anyway.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I love my full bed - it's antique iron, but it's not big enough to accomodate the Chris. The bedroom is the next room we're furnishing, though, thankfully.

The full bed is great for the guest room, though.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Dammit Allison, we weren't fast enough!

Drats.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I have this meeting in 15 minutes... that I called... in which I don't even know what I'm going to talk about. I asked these two guys from another department to help me with something, and I don't even know how to start talking about it. Nice.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Oh, I've done that before. I have full confidence that you can fake it.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

People. Vegas. Rooms. I have a headache.

I have a white duvet. I'm really all about simple when it comes to sheets. Solids only. I'm not big on prints in general, actually.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Al, did you order the dot one? Because that's the one I want. I also want some of those mango sheets from Banana. And shams. Shams are good.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

AB. Still with the no an bei. I don't get it.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

H, that's just wrong, wrong, because I know people are getting in from my stats. But it's below usual hits, so maybe just a few? Hate.

I've also been e-mailing this Apple computer guy back and forth about my iBook not connecting to cable. He's nice.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I want a new iBook so so bad. I'm such a sucker for pretty packages.

I want to see Drugrockstar! AB - I'll check from home. It just keeps giving me connect failed.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

You know, I can get to AB, but I don't see any drug rock star. Hmm.

Mike, there's always a need for sportswriters.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

That's because it's annachao.com/pharm.html, T. I made the page, but haven't linked it yet, because I'm seeking MATH approval first.

Did y'all know Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is out on DVD? I must have it.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

So one would hope. But the job market here is awful

I'm not losing sleep over it right now. Layoffs are happening everywhere, and I'm really good at what I do. It's just sobering.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

T lost her attention span a while back.

I rove Mr. Pharmacist Rock Star.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

yes, the dot com days are clearly over, but I didn't think it would extend to existing successful businesses, like McPaper.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

M, you know the market's booming here in Big D. Uh-huh.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Okay pretty angel pies. I'm off. I need y'all's help. I'm such in an entry slump, and since I've never done a bio, I'm totally ganking off writergirl and I want to do a FAQ. Could y'all send me some questions you think would be good?

Grassy ass.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

SHIT! Today is Edna's birthday. I totally forgot. Just last week, she sent me this beautiful note telling my how lucky she thought Chris was and how "out intentions warmed her heart." And now I'm a terrible, non-birthday card sending girl.

Shit.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

It's all about making Wall Street happy.

But like you sort of said, it's not like I'm working for a start-up here. I don't think we're going out of business anytime soon.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I'm back. I can't even say how that meeting went, because we talked about things other than what I expected. But that's fine. Tomorrow, I raise hell with the Exec VP. Woo hooooooo!

I hate my job.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Did y'all commiserate about the state of affairs at texashealth.org?

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

T, this calls for an emergency. Flowers to Edna! Stat!

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

I just sent her flowers two weeks ago, though! I can't do flowers again. I'm going to write her a note when I get home, and that can go in the mail tomorrow... I'll talk to her tonight when Chris calls her, because I know he hasn't called her yet... Chris bought her two outfits from that Chico's place this weekend, and I picked them out, so I imagine he put my name on the card, I hope.

Crap.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

Ah, well. I'm sure she'll be happy with anything you send her, or say to her or whatever. What a SWEEEEEET thing it was for her to send you that note. Edna sounds like class.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

She is, Al. She's wonderful. She raised her boy right, too,and for that I am eternally grateful.

-- Anonymous, May 16, 2001

You need to go home and call her, then. And I need to scoot to HP and do laundry.

AB - call me tonight, or something. I have to go to Dallas now, but we should get together some night this week, as I do not have practice until Tuesday.
