You might be interested in an obituary that describes some of her contributions at http://www.shef.ac.uk/~psysc/psychoanalytic-studies/msg00108.html. There is also a website about the SRCD celebration of her life at http://www.psy.sunysb.edu/ewaters/mda2.htm. There are a number of other websites that you can find with a search of Yahoo!

THE THEORY OF MARY AINSWORTH IS ABOUT THE CHILDRENS ATTACHMENT

-- lizly ann villarde (lizly_5@excite.com), July 06, 2001.

Mary Ainsworth argued that children develop an attachment to their parents, even children who are abused. While children of different parenting styles ane environments all develop a bond to their parents, they differ in the security of attachment. Security refers to children's confidence in their caregiver, the belief that the caregiver will be available to meet their needs.

Ainsworth's highlight of her career, I would say, is her study on "Strange Situation", which is concerning the different kinds of attachment type displayed by infants of 1-2 years old.
