overhauled M3 feels like an M4P

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I sent this body to be repaired to Leica New Jersey, I have had this with me almost a year since that, and still notice a diferent winding feeling, similar to my M4P, and since the camera has been working well and any trip to LNJ is at least three months, I keept it; was it possible that some pieces used in the M6 were set in my M3?, and so the reason of this feeling, or could be that the new pieces inside need to be worn down a little?

Did they replace the winding mechanism? When Bill Maxwell overhauled my M3, it actually felt smoother on the shutter releaser and winding, but we didn't put in any new parts.

In the scarce information they gave me, is writen repair shutter mecanism.

The older cameras used brass winding gears which are not as strong as the newer steel gears but they do feel smoother. If they had to change the winding mechanism (wear or failed double stroke mech), they would have put in the current parts.
