Vinyl Repair

Vinyl siding is tough stuff but not completely immune from harm. If vinyl becomes damaged, repair is simple and straightforward. The first step is to obtain a piece of replacement vinyl; hopefully some was saved from the original installation. Next remove the piece that is damaged. Use a siding removal or zip tool to unlock the piece at the bottom and top. Remove the nails along the top edge and the damaged piece will easily come out. Slide in the new piece, lock the bottom edge first, then nail the top edge and finally lock the top edge in with its neighbor. When nailing the top, be sure to leave the siding loose enough to accommodate movement from expansion and contraction. The siding should be hung from the nails, not trapped by the nails.
