Share price dropping

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Down 1.5p to 37.5p. Must be nervous shareholders realising that the 100mil we will spend this Summer is going to adversely affect the dividend.

Possibly linked with the news that we are after some more sub- standard South Americans and we will be relegated next season.

I don't think todays trading has any significance given the relatively low volumes. Some early small volume selling was actually partially offset by some late buying - including a 25,000 buy and an 11,000 buy just before close of business. Total volume of 57,000 shares is not significant, and the price closed at 38p.

Sorry clarky, it was a slow newsday at my desk so any topic seemed worth a gamble.

That thought did occur to me Softie.

Mr Robson has sugested that we might only be in for two new signings in the close season. I wonder what he thinks of the statement from DH about £100 M beeing available on new players, and then being told by FS that he has £10m along with any money he can raise from the sale of Marcelino.

Clarky when a person buys say 57000 shares won't another person have sold them as well ?

I guess so Macbeth, but not directly - what happens is that the Market Maker(s) buy shares at the quoted 'bid price' and then sell to other parties at the 'sell price'. The difference is the so- called 'spread' which they keep.

Depending on market conditions and the demand for the particular share, the Market Makers can find themselves accumulating an inventory of shares. This would normally result in them dropping the sell price in order to offload them.

my finance director once asked me this and laughed at my initial confusion as I'd never heard of market makers at the time

Actually, I've just checked and it was aquiet trading day today. The only significant rade was 15,500 shares in a total volume of ca.27,000, which brought the price down one penny.

No big deal - get it?? ;-{)
