Capital City

California became a state in 1850. Sacramento became the state capital in 1854. Did California have a capital city between 1850 and 1854? Was it possibly San Francisco?

"The Consitutional Convention [1849] ... selected San Jose as the first capital... In June 1851 the capital moved to Vallejo but tried San Jose once more as well as Sacramento and Vallejo again before moving to Benicia (1853) and finally settling permanently in Sacramento (1854).
