From Lucianne.

George Bush, Sr.'s Mother's Rules:

Never brag. Never quit. Never let 'em know you're hurting. Be honest. Be kind. Care about the other guy - help him. Don't look down on anyone. Compete hard. Play to win. Give the other guy credit.

Until she died in 1992, her son the President telephoned her every day.

Happy Mother's Day to all Moms everywhere.

Happy Mother's Day to the beautiful sons and daughters that made us Moms in the first place.

Thanks Mom

Mother's Day has a long, proud history

05/13/2001

So maybe you already knew that the earliest Mother's Day celebrations go back to spring festivities in honor of Rhea, the mother of the gods, in ancient Greece.

So maybe you already knew that in the 1600s England turned the rite into "Mothering Sunday" on the fourth Sunday of Lent.

So maybe you knew they brought a "mothering cake" on that day to the matriarchs in aprons.

And perhaps you knew the day was popularized in the United States by Julia Ward Howe, who also wrote the words to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

Thanks to a national drive by Ana Jarvis, President Woodrow Wilson made it official in 1914. If you didn't know that, now you do. So what are you waiting for? Say thanks to the lady of the house. And go help with the dishes.

I got some delightful little presents, performances of hula-hoop dance routines, dandelions. Still have Thumper, the 10 year old, trying to get onto my computer to track down a site which I was looking at last night when I thought she was immersed in a book in the other room. She didn't see exactly what it was, only part of the URL when I tried to erase the history and the knowledge that it was something like statuary that she clearly shouldn't see. Fascinating to look at what she immediately typed into Google to try and search for, it showed a real sophistication. I suppose I may have to look into some sort of Net Nanny, much as I hate their assumptions and biases. The Landover Baptist parody site was also up on a screen, but luckily she is searching for that under "landrover."
