Clark swap for Speed

I wouldn't object to that. Speed has past it, no matter how much i like him.

I heard that BlACKBURN are interested in Speed and that the player would prefer a move back to the north west.

Wonder if they fancy swapping for Jansen?

Clark has recently said his contract negotiations with Fulham are going well but he wishes they weren't going so well. Obviously wants to play for Newcastle but it's not the brightest thing to say when you're still contracted to Fulham!

This would be the same player who wore a shirt slagging off the team he was contracted to at the time, while attending a match featuring that team's rival. ;-)

The way things are going we'll need Clarky in a year's time. He's the man for gaining promotion from the 1st to the Premier league. Done it three times now, hasn't he?

Clarky for Speed? I could live with that, and Lee clearly wants to come home.

Does this mean lee Clark is now the equivalent of a £5.5m player ??

-- Anonymous, May 10, 2001

Gary Speed cost us £5.5mm as a 28 yr-old at the peak of his career. He is now 31, and we'd be lucky to get more than £3-3.5mm for him.

Lee Clark is now 28, at his peak, and I'm quite certain Fulham will believe he is worth £5mm.

If we could make a straight swap I believe it would be a good deal for us.

Fulham web site Fulhamweb are running a story saying we will make a bid of £3 million for Lee Clark, no mention of Speed being involved in the deal but I thought footballers were regularly tested for drugs and that would be a bit risky.

I'd go for that. Speed has turned into a right moaning minnie lately.

So , we swap Speed for Clarke for the left wing, Stone for the right. Swap Solano for Hutchinson and buy Carrick .

Four geordies in the centre of the park sounds good to me.

Sounds like three central midfielders and a wing back!

Carrying on with the Geordie theme, Wouldn't mind Watto coming back to Newcastle as a right back .

Robbie Elliot to replace Wayne Quinn?

There is already talk of Pavel returning and he is a Geordie. I'd prefer to see Alan Thompson back as he's a left midfielder.

Can anyone think of any decent Geordie central defenders to complete our Geordie United?

-- Anonymous, May 10, 2001

I hear Jackie Milburn's not doing a lot these days. He'd work well with Shearer - always just a step behind ;-)

-- Anonymous, May 10, 2001

He's not gonna sing but, he's sure gonna hum...

Give Robiie Elliot 4 months to get completely fit, he'd be great.

Clark for Speed, yes please.

Stone, no thanks, poor mans Gillespie & slowing up a little so he can't get past players as easily.

Stevie Watson - deffo

P.S Robbie Ellit played a few pre-match friendlies as centre half, he was class.

Disagree re Robbie Elliott - just not good enough. Regarding centre halves and Geordies, I kind of think that we have enough adopted Geordies who have come through our own youth system for that slot.

I'd definitely take Robbie Elliott back on a FT. He'd be a good influence in the dressing room, is totally committed, and would be a very useful squad player who can play CB, FB, WB and in midfield.
