The Newcastle United Academy holds its annual Induction Day this afternoon where 11 youngsters, all aged 15 or 16 and in their last year at school, come to St. James' Park with their parents to learn more about life as a footballer at one of England's leading football clubs - a life they will be following for the next two years at least. The scholarships, which begin on 9 July, are effectively three year deals whereby the players are guaranteed a minimum of two years football and three years education.

The induction begins on the football field where United Fitness Coach Paul Winsper, along with Academy Director Alan Irvine, will put the players through a vigorous fitness test.

They're doomed I tell you, doomed!!!

Could be a good newspaper story if you get your camera outside as they are leaving in crutches.

I bet half of them come out with a Marcelino-esque "strained ear" or "snapped nail"
