Frank Lampard jr.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

His agent claims that Lampard jr. will never play for West Ham again. Should we make a move? I'd say yes on a minute, no matter how rotten it may seems. Has anyone an idea what the price could be?

The best thing about this is that Leeds will spend some of their cash on Lampard and therefore couldn't afford Dyer.

Lampard will probably fetch around £8-10 million. Note I didn't say he was worth that much.

Whatever he is way out of our league.

He'd fit right in wouldn't he....I mean, he's done fuck all this season and been in a team that was on the brink of relegation...

Not a chance!

We'd be better off giving Bassedas a run in the middle fo the park. Yes that's what I said Bassedas.

We need a dynamic strong running hard tackling midfielder to anchor the midfield. Prutton appeared to be the affordable option but he now seems out of the price range.

And no I don't put Acuna in that role.

Lampard Jnr. is a good dynamic young player and I'd take him like a shot. However, he'd cost £10mm of Douggies money, and won't wan't to come to the NE when several London Clubs will be interested - unless, of course, the WHU Caretaker Manager, one Glenn Roeder, could persuade him what a top place it is!
Whatever, we should be in for him, no question.

Totally agree Clarky. I rate him highly, which is why we won't go for him.

I'm sure Dyer would be able to tell him all about the attractions of the Quayside Toon.

I don't think we should go for Lampard. He may score some canny goals now and then, but in terms of donkey work, he does nowt.

All the harrasing and off the ball running that a good midfielder would have as an asset (Speed before Christmas) is not part of Lampard's game.

Maybe we could tempt Carrick up here now? I would much rather get Carrick than Lampard.

It would be wonderful to have the choice.

Have not seen him play much but watched him in an England game and thought he looked great.

Leeds are reported bidding £12M for him, sounds like a lot of money.

We can expect a lot of this, Sudden. Next season each club will be presented with 20mil to spend. This does not mean that we will all sign 3 great players and the league will flourish, it just means that John Hartson will cost 14mil and the next Luax2 will be up to 3.5mil.

12mil now before everyone has the cash and can join in the bidding will save you 4mil in 6 weeks' time. It should also mean that selling clubs will do their business asap to enjoy the benefits of any cash before SKY effectively debase the coinage yet again.

"Leeds are reported bidding £12M for him, sounds like a lot of money."

Where are Leeds getting all their money from; Viduka, FERDINAND!, Keane and now perhaps, Lampard? It now looks like UEFA Cup is their best hope for next season!

A mate of mine supports West Ham and he couldn't care less whether or not Lampard leaves. Fat lazy git were the words he used. Carrick on the other hand is a different matter, pure class and willing to put the effort in, not like Lampard.

Whatever it costs! To have Carrick abd Dyer in the same midfield would be a dream.

I'm picking up a few Carrick rumours down here in London. Apparently we've put a bid in for him. Copious seasoning still required for this one though. Which gets me thinking where does the phrase 'large pinch of salt' come from?

Carrick and Bassedas in the centre. Robson is going to cling on to Bassedas mark my words and Carrick would be the foil for him.

If we are asked to pay £4million for Prutton I'd happily pay that bit more for Carrick.

It's nice to have a good midfield but pointless if we don't have a mobile striker that they can play to......we're gonna need one of those as well please.....

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson has been pledged the cash he needs to turn the club into a title chasing team next season.

United have once again underachieved and a mid-table finish will do little to dispel the unrest in the giant St James Park stands. The consensus is that the Magpies need to spend and spend big during the summer if they are to re-emerge as a true Premiership force.

Robson has reportedly been linked with moves for West Ham's £8million- rated Geordie midfielder Michael Carrick and Galatasaray's Turkish international Fatih Akyel. Chief executive David Stonehouse vowed that the Board would back their manager during the latest of a series of talk-ins arranged by the Evening Chronicle newspaper.

"Our three priorities are strengthening the first team squad, improving the training facilities and developing the Academy," he said."We have the money to support the manager in the transfer market and we will be happy to do so now that we will have a better idea of what is going to happen when things are ratified in July."

I heard O'Leary in an interview he said when he bought Keane he only had £1M to spend and had to take him on loan first and sell a couple of players to afford to pay Inter later.

Carrick would be nice!

-- Anonymous, May 11, 2001

But Leeds probably weren't anticipating getting to the semi final of the Champions League, rumour has it that O'Leary has £40 million to spend!

So, Stonehouse has been lurking on here after all!
