Response to history of psychology

Hi Bradley, isn't 14 way too young to be doing "a lot of research?" There is a saying in the field of law: "Bad cases make bad lawyers." Meaning complicated cases can leave you confused, know the history of psychology is complex and the meaning of its words changes from time to time throughout history. Have you looked at the Oxford English Dictionary which defines words by listing them historically as they appear in use, and then it gives you sentence so you can see how it was used at that time. Look up "Psychology" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Good luck in your research, David

For those who want more specifics, there have been a variety of answers to this question, but I think the date was quite firmly set at < 1524 in the work of Marco Marulic.

Fairly complete references to the various sources on this are found in my two articles:

Vande Kemp, H. (1980). The origin and evolution of the term "psychology": Addenda. American Psychologist, 35, 774.

Vande Kemp, H. (1983). A note on the term psychology in English titles: Predecessors of Rauch. Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences, 19, 185.
