DC1000/ Pinnacle Avi to MPG1-VideoCd

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I've been trying to convert from the Pinnacle Avi to MPG1VideoCd, but it seems to be not compatible on any converter. I have used, MEDIACLEANER 5, XING, AVI2VCD, but it keeps saying that the codec is not present in the machine. So I figured that the codec must be within the hardware of the Video Card. Then I tried saving off the PREMIER TIME line directly to Xing plugin, but the operation aborts itself. Then I tried with the different software codecs present in the machine, and then convert to MPG1, it works but the quality is terrible. So I figured that if I saved the AVI file as UNCOMPRESSED it would work on the MPG converters I have, and therefore get an MPG-1 file with the best quatility posible. It did BUTTTTT. UNCOMPRESSED file are too big the most you can get is a 4 minute video which adds up to the 2GB limit. So my idea of making a VCD with musical videos is apparently not that simple. Since most of the songs go over 4 minutes. Any help to clarify the operation around DC1000 to make VCDs would greatly be apretiated Thanx Carlos

It sounds like you have some terribly inefficient codec. Even type-1 DV AVI codecs manage a bit over 9 minutes for 2GB with superb quality, i.e., full-res (720x480), etc. If you use Win98SE, in control panel>multimedia>devices tab>video compression is a list of all h/w and s/w codecs residing on your system. Do you see if this codec you're talking about is there and exactly what its name is? For example, one h/w codec I use is the one that comes with my Matrox Marvel G200 which is a type of MJPEG. In video compression it's listed as "RRcm dmb1" which doesn't exactly indicate its presence. Which codecs are active can also be found on inspection of the win.ini file.
