no Prutton....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Just read on Team Twaddle that the 4m asking price on Prutton is too steep for us....I know I shouldn't take to heart anything on that site but somehow, someway I wouldn't be overly surprised if it was true.....

Although not normally optomistic where this stuff is concerned, I agree that we should not spend that amount on an untried teenager. You win nowt wi kids, the semi final of the Champions league is just not good enough.

If we hadn't been ripped off with Gavilan and Lulua, then I would have said, £4 million is a realistic price for a good young player. Obviously Forrest think the time to sell is now and will stick a high price on his head. If any one pays that though is open to debate.

There's an article in today's Journal in which BR is saying he is not in a position at the moment to take multi-million pound gambles on unproven young players when he is badly in need of proven talent.

Prutton was mentioned as someone in the "unproven" category, whose Club are wanting £3.5mm for him - so we can presumably forget about him.

I can certainly understand what Bobby is saying, and that's fine if we can afford the "proven talent" that he seeks - but if we can't then WTF do we do? Stick with the "proven talent" that we already have? I think not.

but then wasn't 7m too much for Cort???? and 2.5 for Lua2???? Todays market probably dictates that you won't get shite for under 5m and that the hopes of finding a gem in the rough for a few quid is virtually nil.

It is all a matter of risk. Companies in a strong financial position can afford to take risks that those generating a low level of net funds cannot. Our financial position has deteriorated because of poor purchases, investment in the stadium and reduced revenue from merhandise and television. This, our dreadful stock price and a history of bad management prevents us from going to the capital markets. Unpalatable though it is to accept, without a new influx of cash, we are going to be severely strapped for some time to come.

I suspect if Bobby had the record with unprovens that Keegan had we'd all back his choice, previous cock ups make us (7 no doubt the board) nervous.

Notts Forest losing £100k a week. Shove a bid in for £2 million and we'll have him!

........ this could all be simply down to BR negotiating with Forest via the media, of course!
