what is bulb?

i am new to SLR photography and i just got myself a EOS rebel 2000...i noticed that it has a BULB exposure option...

since i donīt know that much about photography could any one explain to me what is BLB EXPOSURE and how does it work?

"Bulb" is just an untimed shutter speed. It can be as long as you want, or as long as you can hold the shutter down.

I believe the Rebel 2000 has shutter speeds as long as 15 seconds, but for some night scenes you might want longer exposures. Star trails pictures for instance.

You would have to find some way to hold the shutter down without shaking/vibrating your camera of course. On some other EOS cameras you can use the IR remote to do this but the Rebel 2000 can't use that device. I can't remember if it can use the wired shutter release. If it can, that can hold the shutter open as long as you want, or at least until the battery goes dead.

It can use wired shutter release RS-60 E3 and has a max shutter time of 30 seconds.
