m3 double stroke - curtain repair

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

i have an m3 double stroke. recently when I wound my film forward, the two sections of the curtain broke in two and got lost inside the housing. is this a common problem on the m3 ds? is it hard to repair and how much do they cost ( i live in singapore?) i m not sure if it's worth the while repairing - the shutter speeds are still working... appreciate expert advice from anyone out there with a m3 ds

To see typical prices online go to www.cameraquest.com. To compare prices, http://teachnet.edb.utexas.edu/~leica/repair.html gives you a list of other respected Leica repair persons. Most will want to combine the curtain replacement with a regular CLA, which only makes sense since the camera is open anyway..................

Leica USA will charge approximately US$400-500 for this repair/replacement job plus a complete CLA. Independent Leica technicians like DAG (in Wisconsin) or Sherry K(in NY) will charge almost the same. Don't throw away that M3 DS! Leica cameras are built to last. That camera should be perfectly useable for another 50 years!........................................................
