Of Puppies and Storms

In case you may be wondering how the puppies are growing, I have updated the Puppy page.

Also, over the weekend, we had some bad weather move past. If you're interested in seeing how a tornado brews in this state, follow this link. The series of links on the page go to pictures I snapped off of the TV running on the computer. You'll actually see a couple being formed, but the helicopter had to leave the area.

Thanks, Sheeple! If you're having any trouble keeping Mom well fed, I'm betting a few of us still have some extra beans looking for a home! ;^)

Brooks,

In the past week and a half, she has eaten at least 60 lbs of Iams. She's still having some weight loss, due to all of the milk production. Her coat is not as good as it used to be. I tried some Iams puppy food from a can, just to see if the little critters would eat (since their teeth are starting to break their gums), and they licked it up like there is no tomorrow. Mom will be glad about that!

Sheeple, we raised champion cocker spaniels for many years.

We weaned them extra early. They grew like weeds and no noticeable problems and Mom had a reprieve somewhat sooner. (Gotta be tough once those teeth started forming.) We also gave the mother cow milk to drink.

Neither of the above is generally recognized as acceptable. However, Dad is a pathologist and Mom remembered her training with the top med. school guys wherever it was that Dad was a resident when oldest sibling was born (NC/Chapel Hill?). She insisted the advice she received privately from those doctors was quite different from what the public was being told. As a result, the three of us were all started on baby foods quite young, and learned to sleep through the night at a very early age.

In whatever ways we eventually turned out to be totally screwed up, I don't believe the early weaning was the culprit.

Just something to consider.

Man oh man! those are some nasty sky shots! I hate it when the storm is so heavy that you can't even tell it's day time!

I was in one once, in NC, middle of the day on Saturday or Sunday as all three of us were home. We were getting ready to go to town when a dark cloud started forming to the W/S/W of us. We could see quite a ways because the field across the street was empty. We just watched out the window as it got bigger and darker. We had no idea it was going to get so bad so fast. i guess it was around noonish or so when it came over the house. We were talking about Stephen King and his story, The Mist, because it was so dark. We turned on the kitchen light [middle of the house], we watched the front edge going E/N/E out the back window of the kitchen and the west window was dark as midnight. The outside light came on, and then the rains hit. Thunder, thunder thunder on and on without stopping! Then lightning so bright we couldn't see a thing! then a particularly bright flash that we all thought had gone thru the house from the west window to the east. We all ducked down on the floor and sat there waiting for TSTHTF. The power went out on that last flash. It was dark dark dark and we and the dogs were all shaking.

Then the rain stopped, no thunder, no lightning. Dead quiet.

The dogs stood up and looked toward the west window, waiting...

Then it started getting brighter, we could see shades of dark.

Then the horizon became visible as a bright line, and in about five minutes it was sunny and breezy, a beautiful day, although everything was wet. The neighbor up the street stopped by and asked about the electric. he was a CPL guy. He used his bucket thing to get to the pole and flipped a bar thing up there and we had power.

the whole thing lasted about 30 minutes or so, maybe less. We checked out the house and yard. No damage, so we went to town. Only got halfway when we had to turn around from the lines down, and wind damage blocking the roads.

Whew! That was enough! I thought hurricanes were bad, but at least we can prepare before they hit! this type of weather y'all can keep! I sure don't need it in Miami.

I breast-fed both my daughters an average of 4 years, which is common among many of the women I know in this community. An article in this week's New York Times Magazine discusses extended breastfeeding patterns.

Teeth were never a problem with nursing an older baby, any more than they are with fellatio.

Haven't nursed any puppies, though, so I'm not going to give any mama dog cross-species advice. ;)

Firemouse, you do have a way with addies!!! LOLOLOL

Firemouse, regarding teeth and fellatio, it depends on whether one is giving or receiving as to whether the teeth are a problem.

And yes, you do have a way with the addies! ROTFHMD

No teeth? You prefer old ladies who park theirs in a jar first?

Mother is not reading this. If she were, she might say that's enough of that particular thread drift.
