Used EOS 1

Saw a listing for an EOS 1 (mint) for about $650. How does the EOS 1 compare to the newer models? Were they pretty reliable? I like the idea of having a solid pro body (I shoot with an EOS 5 now) but want something more reliable and rugged. I am an amateur but occasionally do some weddings. I'm not sure all the new bells and whistles make a difference. Any thoughts?

If you use fast optics this is still an able beast. The AF sensor consists of a single cross sensor designed to work with F2.8 or faster lenses. You may use slower lenses but the sensor downgrades to a single vertical array sensitive only to horizontal lines. A typical slow zoom- -F3.5-4.5--will rack back and forth a lot. Your EOS 5 has much better AF response.

$650 seems a little high when you consider that you can get a new EOS1N or EOS3 for about $850 at B & H Foto. The better AF response and exposure control does make a difference, even if you don't need mirror lockup or 45 AF sensors.
