US Champs Weather

Well, of course it's too early to really be sure what the weather will be like next weekend. But we can all hold out some hope it won't be as torrid as it has been in much of the East this past week. Here around Athens, Greece--I mean, Athens, Ohio--record setting temperatures have given way to moderate and Spring-like temps, instead of the gun metal grey-blue days earlier in the week, with threats of breakouts into the low 90s.

I took a look at the weather conditions for Watertown, NY, for May 12 the last five years.

2000: low of 52, high of 66, rain.
1999: low of 30, high of 61.
1998: low of 50, high of 72, rain.
1997: low of 48, high of 62, rain.
1996: low of 33, high of 46, rain, snow and fog.

Weatherunderground's current forecast for Friday and Saturday is "Mostly cloudy with rain likely. Low in the mid 40s. High 60 to 65."

I don't put much stock in forecasts that are almost a week in advance, but I think I'll bring some rain gear.

The hazy, gunmetal grey-blue skies which were sweltering away in southern Ohio have given way to softer airs and vernal greens in the Finger Lake district of New York. The temps are markedly lower up here, and unless you're a reptile, that's something to be glad for.

It's pleasant in Watertown this afternoon, and only a little bit on the warm side. The last of the winter snows were melting on the Tug Hill Plateau this afternoon, and may not be visible even by tomorrow. Here and there a leaf is starting to bud out.

Cooler weather is expected to prevail for the weekend, which should be perfect for running.

No word on the blackflies.

Some of the above is true.
