Carl Serrant has just retired.

I didn't know whether to put this in the news category or the jokes category but Carl Serrant has just announced his retirement due to persistant injuries.

Can't imagine why anyone would regard this as a joke. I feel desperately sorry for the lad - his career finished at 25: a player who had been called into an England squad for training just after joining us at 21 as a hugely promising talent.

I've always felt this lad was badly treat by fans, being lumped in with the plethora of wasters around the Club in recent times, and ludicrously pilloried for one mistake in giving away a penalty at Everton under TDO.

I actually met him on Wembley Way before the FAC Final v Manure, walking to the ground all on his own - he seemed like a real nice lad.

I for one wish him well in whatever he now turns his hand to.

I already penned him a letter last night when I heard the news on Sky. I met him at the Riverside three years ago.

Sad business.

Letter - nice thought Pete. I'd put my name to that, assuming you haven't sent him a turd in a tupperware box. He's doing very well in my Champ Man game too!

Yes, very nice thought. If you haven't mailed him yet send my regards to and I'm sure many others here as well.

Sad news. Once spoke with him and he seemed a friendly, down-to- earth bloke, no star allures, who was "just glad to be playing again". All the best Carl with whatever you choose to do in the future.

Afraid I have to be callous here - but could we please put an imediate ban on buying players from Oldham? Remember John Ryan? What a waste of dosh.
