If your camcorder is a DV Camcorder it sure has a FireWire Port, just buy a FireWire card. They are cheap (are around 70 dlls). Set up is a breeze, but you will need additional software to control your Camcorder in order to transfer the video to your computer. The huge advantage of this technology is that everything happens in the digital domain.

On the other hand if your camcorder is analog (C-VHS, 8mm, etc.) tou will need a capture card. Personally I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon (about $300 dlls.), There are other companies in the market like Matrox, etc.

Finally, you must consider your own machine, you will need a fast and big hard disk (20 minutes of captured viedo using MPEG2 compression may take up to 1 Gb). So to speak of a fast machine. Minumum 500Mhz, 128Mb of memory
