Old CS postings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Is there a category for blood pressure elevation related to gut-expanding vomitus? Then please add my comments about re-reading some of the old Countryside postings. ARGGGHHHHH!!!! For some reason, some of the old chestnuts are sprouting over there again. I took the insane pleasure of jacking up my b.p. by re-reading some of the nauseous posts from some of the old-time nauseous posters again. Sheesh. All I can say is thanks for this Forum again! And I'm glad I don't live in some of those spaces that some other folks do (geographically and psychotically!)

My favorite pet peeve on CS Forum (okay true confessions) is some of what is written by those females (I guess...) that write like they haven't been exposed to anything other than romance novel (cough) *prose* for eons. All that flowery shit! Yes, Yes, Yes!!! I must be destined to enjoy reading them to the very height of ecstasy! Truly to be such a woman is the highest goal in life! Ad nauseum! Those corsets must be cutting off their oxygen supply..

Okay, thanks for listening and now back to our regularly scheduled broadcast!!! I just really needed to express myself!

And you know me, I really don't hate anyone at all. But really, the *writing*!!!! Come ON!!!!!

My. Gee. What to say? Mood swing weekend for me,so it's best I not even go over there. Where to begin? Understand.I'm not a hater either, but I sure had to bolt from there before I became one.Just couldn't stomach it.'course you know some of the rest of the story.

And sheepish,it's called baiting. They were even bragging about it on 'Freedom'.Nope can't stomach it. Will not lurk there today. Will not. Must not. No,No,No,No, do not go there Sharon! Getting Nick now,so he can lock up the computer, for my own protection!

Shall I send over some lemon balm cooler for you? Calms Nick right down.If it works for him,it'll work on anyone or anything. I got the mental immage of a charging rhino while I wrote that.

Well, now that your adrenelin is all cranked up,you should have a pretty productive day, working off all that aggression. Enjoy!

Watch out for those cross dressers!

for shame, for shame, I thought I was the only one!!! And lurking on the Freedom Forum sharon, now that will really get the old blood pressure up. I tend to have LOW blood pressure so I just go over there when I feel dizzy and I am all better. hahaha.....now Nick as a charging rhino???.....did you see that Nick???? love and blessings to all.

Whew! For a while there, I thought I was channeling Joel....

Um, anyway, I won't even venture to the Freedom forum. I can just imagine. I have stayed off several other forums in the past for probably similar reasons! Keepin' it at 118/78...

"The mind is a terrible thing to waste."

Okay, Sharon, I'll have a productive day. Thanks. Cheerio. Kirk, no soda at the computer today...

Or in the words of our X vp, the king of faux paux, A mind is a terrible thing to lose.

I must not be reading the same posts, or else the flowery language doesn't bother me . . . . Or did you mean the ones that are unable to refer to animal anatomy without employing euphemisms? Like refering to a cow's birth canal (or vagina if you want to be more technical) as "er, um, . . . down there". I can't believe the embarassment this sort of thing seems to engender! Oops, was that a pun -- sorry!

I don't have much patience with people who get all squeamy (I didn't make that term up, but I appropriated it as soon as I heard it!) about such things. Language is such a funny thing -- horse droppings, horse manure, horse shit -- the first is most polite, the second is correct but makes some uneasy, and horse shit is offensive. It's all the same object. Why is one term acceptable and the other not?

Well, I shouldn't have, but I went and found the "Freedom" forum, which I didn't even realize existed. Guess I wasn't paying enough attention. Didn't see the bragging about "baiting". I did see their thread discussing THIS forum. Apparently, they think it is invitation only or you're not "allowed" to post here. Whatever [shrug].

I posted a link to the article about the Monsanto exec being nominated to the EPA on the thread Sue posted over there. I guess I won't be going back, though, as it would only be to lurk. I don't like the idea of lurkers here, so I won't be lurking there. My definition of lurk: Reading but not posting, for the purpose of spying, derision, or trouble-making. I don't have a problem with people reading a forum to decide whether they want to participate, or just to get information if they're too shy or busy to participate.

The thing that baffles me is that I know a bunch of the "liberal side" got clobbered with viruses and cyber attacks. A bunch of the "conservative side" have posted that they've received porn or viruses, and seem to suspect other posters on the CS forum. I HOPE none of us would stoop that low.

I've managed to stay on fairly civil, if not friendly, terms with most posters of whatever beliefs, somehow. So, maybe that's why I've never gotten any viruses or hate emails. Hope it stays that way!

Joy, you are such a sweetie!!! I wish I could be like you. I lurked just recently because of all the stuff going on at CS and wanted to see what their take on it was. The stuff on "baiting" was on the thread about the "rules on the other forum". That was when I knew I would never post there and have pretty much given up the idea of even lurking there. (the bug does happen though and I know they are lurking here, which is just fine with me, I was a lurker on CS for a lot of months before I had the nerve to post)

Goes to show you how you can fool others -- I am NOT sweet! Just ask my friends and relatives (why the friends put up with me, I'm not sure). I just don't believe in putting it all in print. You should (or maybe should not) hear what I mutter to myself.

Being fair is one of my own, personal, guiding principles. Nope, life ain't fair, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't try. So many people make a POINT of trying to NOT be fair that I get very frustrated. My BP doesn't need elevating either . . .

And Diane, you seem to think that you're such a potstirrer, but I don't see it that way. I remember us (you & me) disagreeing quite strongly on the euthanesia issue (remember that old thread on CS) -- and look, we still get along! :-)

Oh my goodness Joy, I had completely forgotten about that thread!!! I never really carry things around with me too much. Once I have my say about something I tend to just let it go. I guess I will have to go back and look at it. I think I remember it had something to do with nurses losing choices?? Well anyway, I am glad we still communicate. I finally had a chance to teach someone how to copy, cut and paste....I will never forget that you taught me that when I was a total computer illiterate. blessings....and thanks...I think you are sweet even if others don't (I have a feeling it is probably only you that doesn't)

Eeeek!! You mean they know we exist over here?! Quick, Sharon - lend me your cloaking device!

I went over to Countryside just to see what Sheepish was talking about; I could hardly find anything that piqued my interest. What "old chestnuts" were you talking about? Way old posts that were resurrected, or new posts that were the SOS? Maybe it's me that's changed, but the stuff I used to read with great enjoyment barely rates a blink anymore. Besides, once I get done catching up here; I don't have time to go there anymore. Kind of makes me sad, I'm sure I've missed some good stuff. I really hate reading about people dumping their subscriptions to the mag because they are PO'd about something someone else has said and so and so is letting them get away with it but deleted my post and I'm just going to take my bat and ball and go home so there! I'm not ever giving up my subscription to the mag - so there!! I've been handing out subscription cards right and left to my family (they all had to read my story when they were here at Easter - You want coconut pie? Read story!) Truth be told, I enjoy the mag more than the forum - probably because the mag has been edited where the forum wasn't until recently.

So, if I go lurk at the Freedom forum (whatever that is), will I get enough adrenaline in my system to keep me awake past 9 pm this evening!?

Polly: Its the Freedom---self reliance forum on Lusenet(another greenspun forum) started by Doreen when she left in a huff about her posts being deleted. It seems the big gripe is not what anyone is saying but that they're being "censored".

I lurk there occasionally, as well as the "Christian" forum started by Lesley, but nowadays spend most of my forum time here. I like it alot better here because we can express ourselves freely without getting into one of those brawls that were becoming so common on CS.

I think I was just getting all riled up reading a few different posts and remembering some of the ugly stuff that was posted by a few. Just reading a couple of posts sent a wave of revulsion over me and I overreacted a bit (although I enjoyed being humorous about it.)

I learned a lot from many of the posters on the old CS board, especially from some of the folks that I vehemently disagreed with. What I didn't like was the taunting, or baiting, as I see no point to it. It still is aggravating, so I avoid forums that seem to have it as a component.

As far as like-minded posters, then bravo for the folks at Freedom. I always enjoyed Doreen's posts...not because I always agreed with them, but because they made a point, and were well-written. What I really didn't care for was the "me-too, me-too" cheering that seemed to be coming from the Stepford Wives From Hell who chimed in from time to time (not necessarily to Doreen)...no point other than to "bait." But like mosquitoes, they have their season and are then gone. Whew.

I like this Forum and folks on it. I still read and post to CS (which is why I got my dander up when I was reading stuff again.) I lurk at probably 4 or 5 other forums, but only to get information. I don't post to those others b/c I have no position to take or information to add.

Anyway, the weather finally broke and I can get back outside. I think waiting for the sun was really what was bothering me.

Y'all have a great day!

That was good for a laugh, thanks Sheepish!

I bopped over to the Freedom site this afternoon while waiting for the rain to stop. Sorry, no adreneline rush. I did get a giggle for a minute over being called part of the touchy-feely leftist forum. I'm trying to figure out why some of the folks over there were upset about not being invited to this forum yet cutting it down at the same time. Doesn't seem to make sense to me. Maybe I'm missing something.

-- Anonymous, May 06, 2001

Polly, I think they like to fight and they miss us!

-- Anonymous, May 08, 2001

You think they really do miss us? Awwww - that's so sweet, John! Why, I think we all ought to just run right over there and give them a great big hug!

Giggle, snort, hee-hee!! Must be the "touchy-feely" comin' out! (Either that, or sleep deprivation again!)

No, really - there are some folks over there that I do miss reading; but I like this forum the way it is.

-- Anonymous, May 08, 2001

Sorry to disappoint you folks, don't miss you at all and I will not be back here so go ahead and post what you want about me, makes no diff.

-- Anonymous, May 09, 2001

And there you have it folks -- proof positive that they DO miss not having us so they can keep up a squabble. Or that post never would have been on here. :-D

-- Anonymous, May 09, 2001

Hey, I wasn't thinking about you in reference to this thread! Hope you are doing well. Oh well, you probably will never know now.

-- Anonymous, May 09, 2001

Must've hit some kind of nerve . . . I wasn't thinking of bwilliams either.

-- Anonymous, May 10, 2001

The thing I don't like about CS is that they have got a Bible thumper who drowns on and on about things that don't relate to anything.
