Freezing eggs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

After having 7 dozen eggs in my frig and reading that eggs can be frozen, I went ahead and froze four ice cube trays of scrambled up raw eggs in my freezer. Now I've found I can't get them out of the trays! (Tippy - stop laughing!) In hindsight I probably should have coated the trays with a cooking spray. Is there any way to get the eggs out of the tray, short of defrosting them? Any ideas?

Lisa, Put a large bowl in your sink. Turn the ice cube tray upside down over the bowl, and run some hot water over the bottom briefly. This should loosen the eggs enough to get them out. Then rap sharply with a wooden/heavy spoon and (hopefully) they'll drop into the bowl. Then just bag them or put them in tupperware, etc. and you'r done. Good Luck-

Next time you do this, leave the eggs in the trays only until they set. Then pop whatever amount you want into separate freezer baggies. Some folks like to put just 2 eggs in each baggie, since this is what many recipes call for. Seems to me if they're already frozen, you could pop a bunch of them into one bag. Or wrap a couple at a time in cling wrap and put them all in a baggie. I haven't tried this yet, so not sure how I'd handle it.

LOL! In a chatroom, I am known as Tippy! That's why she is telling me to stop laughing! Lisa is my daughter and my best friend. She phoned me about this problem and I hadn't the slightest idea what to tell her, so I told her to post here! I just thought of an idea. Lisa, give them to your Dad to put in his beer. He used to drink raw eggs in his beer. But then.....never mind, I'll behave!
