Mook's Derby Picks!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

Yes, May rolls around and while it may not look like spring in the LaRamie Range, it sure is springtime in the Bluegrass State and they'll be running for the roses this weekend!

I have been barraged by a seemingly endless stream of email asking me for my Derby picks. OK, you asked for them, you shall receive...

  1. Point Given
  2. Dollar Bill
  3. Millenium Wind

Look for the iron colt to come away with a win on his way to the first Triple Crown since '79. Dollar Bill is a sure bet to place (never count out a horse with Pat Day "aboard"). Millenium Wind ushers in a new era with a fine showing of third. Congaree is my dark horse pick and the kind of spoiler who could walk away with everything on a good day.

Oh, sure, go with the safe bets--the favorites. I'm going out on a limb and picking Congaree to win.

It's a little hard for Mook to not have picked the favorites, since as soon as Mook has dropped his hints, the odds from Vegas to Atlantic City, to trackside in Louisville (or Lexington or whereever it is) immediately swing in the sense of Mook's picks.

As for Mook, knowing the impact his words would have, Mook put all of his money on the eventual winner, Monarchos, and walked away with quite an impressive purse.
