What's the difference between the composition of limestone and dolomite and how does dolomite form?

Limestone and dolomite (also called dolostone) are chemical sedimentary rocks, meaning that they form from minerals that precipitate out of water rather than forming from pieces of sediment (clastic sedimentary rocks). The main difference between them is that limestone is made out of calcite and dolomite is made out of dolomite. (see the sedimentary rocks notes).
