What are the steps to follow in order to determine the name of an igneous rock?

The first thing to look at in an igneous rock is the mineral composition of the rock, try to identify things such as quartz, mafic silicates, and feldspars. Once you have identified the minerals that make up the rock, you must look at grain size. Are they coarse or fine. With that information you should be able to identify the rock. (see the table in the igneous rock notes).
