APO Extender 2x-ROM on an R8

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

The Leica user manual for the APO Extender states that you should not use the extender on an R-8 in Shutter priority 'T' or Auto program 'P' modes as they can cause faulty results.

When I use a ROM lens with the 2x-ROM Im almost sure that the camera is smart enough to know what is connected thus there should be no problems.

If using a non-ROM lens and the 2x-ROM I believe that the Leica instructions are correct.

Leica probably never revised the instruction manual from the 2x to the 2x-ROM.

Anyone have any similar experiences...or can confirm that there are no limitations in any operating mode?........Thanks Ed

I use the 2x-APO ROM with both 35-70/4 and 80-200/4 and it works in T mode. I never have used P mode but I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work if T mode does.

The problem is not the ROM, but the inaccuracy introduced by the longer mechanical linkage.

In A and M, YOU (and not the camera) will put the cam link at the right place. Leica can't guarantee that the camera will do it correctly each time in T or P mode.

Because the likage is shorter inside the APO 1,4X, there not such a problem with it.
