Cat survives journey from Israel in freight container
By Maurice Weaver

A CAT survived the journey from Israel to the West Midlands inside a shipping container by drinking condensation from the walls, the RSPCA said yesterday.

The animal was discovered when the container, packed with plastic paddling pools, was opened at the Hams Hall Freight Depot in Coleshill, Warwicks, after a voyage of several weeks.

An RSPCA spokesman said: "The cat was very thin and distressed but in remarkable health considering its ordeal." Workers named the grey cat Felix, after Felixstowe, the Suffolk port at which the container entered Britain.

The RSPCA is now appealing for someone to adopt him and foot the £800 quarantine bill. The spokesman said: "He's such a plucky cat, it would be a shame for him not to have a new home waiting."
