RE ElanII and 420EX setting

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Is me again; well let say, I have the 420EX on my ElanII and I have set the speed to 1/4 sec with f2.0 and the Exposure Level points to "0", but then I am only using the flash as a fill flash. Since I cannot hand hold the camera at 1/4 Sec, my question is how can I set my camera to be able to hand hold (1/30 sec or up...) and at the same time to get correct exposure with the 420EX flash.

Thanks a lot!

Set the camera to manual, set the shutter to 1/30 and the apreture to whatever, ignore the meter, press the button. This will, or course, not be fill flash any longer. You can also set the camera to P or to Tv and do nearly the same but manual is very easy if you are using flash to expose the scene.

See the Elan II flash FAQ at http://bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/flashfaq.htm for an explanation of how flash metering works and how various exposure modes work with flash.
