To find the answers to your questions you would have to be in the state of mind that Poe was in when writing all of his works. In other words you would have to be drug indused.....As you should know he brought about his best works while being over come by the affects of opium...........

first of all, i believ he wrote this poem to express his grief about the death of his wife Virginia, he did it in a very masked way, he had a lot pain and anger towards "damned earth" so god, or the creator. the yellow hair is i believ describing his dead wife's hair, so it's discoloured and yellow, like her dead body basically he watns her to come back from the dead, his attitude towards death is he's very bitter and anger i think, and the double dead thing basically he feels like he's soul, body dead...

The poem was not about his beloved Virginia as she died years AFTER "Lenore" was composed.

well u guys are semi right the poem is about death and he did do drugs and he can write better than most of us even though he had a purty disturbed life but i feel that thats what makes him such a good writer....he knows what hes talking about...for jebus sake the guy could talk to birds so it would be only reasonable to belive that he could write well.

poe was a user of opium, and after youve done it for a few weeks you get whats called "opium dreams", and this is probably the source of alot of these images in all of his storys and poems (these "dreams" tend to be so horrifing and vivid that some addicts scratch out thare own eyes)
