Lucent Cuts 400 Jobs In Oklahoma City

Sale Of Plant Still Expected

OKLAHOMA CITY, 6:58 a.m. CDT May 2, 2001 -- Lucent Technologies announced Tuesday that it will lay off 400 workers in Oklahoma City.

The company announced in 2000 that it would sell its factory in west Oklahoma City. Lucent has received bids from several companies interested in buying the plant, spokesman Al Rodgers said.

He wouldn't name the companies, but said that the goal is to sell the plant by July 1, with as many current employees remaining at the plant as possible.

At this time, no additional layoffs are expected.

Lucent is the largest private employer in Oklahoma City, with a payroll of about $200 million.

The company also laid off 400 people
