Olof Mellberg is a big, strong central defender who now plays in Racing Santander who will probably be relegated from the Primera Liga in Spain. If this happens I'm sure Mellberg will move on and now both Chelsea, Tottenham and Villa is keen on him. Earlier in the season top Spanish and Italian clubs have been linked with him.

He's a Swedish international but has played out of position to the right in the defence because Patrik Andersson (Bayern M) and Joakim Bjorklund (Valencia) has occupied the central postions for the last 10 years or so. Recently Björklund didnt play regulary in Valencia and was dropped out of the Swedish team so Mellberg got the chance in the middle with captain Andersson. And he did really well!

I have also seen him play for AIK in the Swedish Allsvenskan before leaving for Spain. Teamtalk belived the price for him would be around £5M and if thats true I really think we should go for him.

Buy Mellberg and Southgate, for another £5M, and we have one of the best central defences in the PL!

Når det gjelder Mellberg er han ukjent for meg. En annen som vi derimot burde ha sikret oss, er Ibrahimovic eller hva han heter. Så på fotbollskveld på tv og jeg ble imponert. Han skal vel til Ajax? Når det gjelder norske spillere; i dag scoret Thorstein Helstad 5 mål i en seriekamp. Klubben hans, Brann, vil gjerne selge ham på grunn av økomomiske grunner. NUFC burde ta sjansen....

Yes DB, Ibrahimovic is sold to Ajax and will join them in June or July I think. That boy has a great talant and even though he hadnt played in the higests league in Sweden Ajax payed 80Mkr for him, thats about £5,5-6M. Very, very much for a Swedish player bought from a Swedish club. I think the most expensive player before that was Freddie Ljungberg from Halmstad to Arsenal for about £2,5-3M.
