Happy May Day a day late, everybody

Hey! Hope ya all had a Happy May Day. We did here. Lea and I made up may baskets and filled them with flowers, they were so pretty, then we went to our neighbors and friends and hung the baskets on their doors, then rang the doorbell and ran and hid. We had much giggling and stumbling. One neighbors husband answered the door and didn't see the basket, I could hear him cussing, so I told Lea we had better go explain to him, he was all smiles after he found out somebody wasn't just fooling with him. Where I grew up in Missouri, May baskets were a common thing, but since alot of people around here have never heard of them I put little note cards in with them explaining about them. Your not soppose to let the people see who you are, but we got caught a few times.

We also went out and washed our faces in the morning dew. when I was a little girl I sincerly believed the folk tale, that doing that would fill your life with love and beauty. Now maybe it really works because my husband tells me that I am beautiful, but he looks at me through the eyes of love. But either way , , as long as he thinks that I'm beautiful and I am loved then it did come true for me.

It's not too late for you to get in on the May celebrations. Do you know where a Hawthorne tree is? Tie a blue ribbon on it to wish for protection, a bright green one for prosperity, pink or rose colored for love, and tie a deep purple or indigo colored ribbon on it to wish for spiritual knowlege.

Somebody mentioned May Baskets on another forum and sent me into revelry about them!!! OH the memories!!!

The pine in our yard served as my Hawthorne tree.... Don't forget to make your wishes for others, too! My neighbors REALLY think I'm nuts, now, LMAO!!

Thanks for this post - it is so wonderful to see that there are still folks out there that get joy from bringing joy to others!! (BTW - similar legend about the May baskets to the one about the dew)

Boy Tren I haven't heard of May day in years! Wasn't there something about kids circling a may pole or am I getting that confused with something else....Kirk

Thanks Tren. I didn't make any May baskets, but I did send some flowers to a friend who's going through a rough time right now.

I took Monday and Tuesday off from work and had a wonderful time working in the yard, meditating, and cooking a big dinner for our group's Beltaine celebration. I got up at dawn yesterday to collect the May dew so guess I can put off that face-lift for another year!

I"ve been doing a lot of soul-searching lately and I've dedicated myself to making some big changes. I want to say an especially big thank-you to Sue and to Joy for all the help and encouragement you've given me off-list. You guys are the greatest!

We had a lovely day! We started out by watching the sunrise. Then we washed our faces in the dew. Hope it works! I blessed my garden and then off to the nature center for some creek exploration. Then we topped it off with a backyard bonfire. Busy day! I think the May baskets are a great idea! I think we'll do that next year. It sounds like fun!
