Spring Muses

In many places spring has sprung or is just around the corner. Getting outside is a top priority, and working on the house even seems like a good idea. Take advantage of this burst of energy and take care of some things that if put off probably won't get done. Take a good look at the roof. Do the gutters need cleaning? Have winter storms loosened up or blown off any shingles? Before the spring rains arrive and while the weather is still cool, get up there and take care of any problems. Check flashings and roof vents. If there are trees around the house, trim back any overhanging branches. The shade that trees provide is great, but branches that brush the roof cause trouble in short time. Insects drop from branches and start looking for a home. Humidity levels are higher in the shade, which contributes to moss growth -- bad for the roof. Do it now before you decide to go to the park.
