Toon Close in on Sikora

Teamtalk are reporting the following:

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson is expected to complete the £4million signing of Vitesse Arnhem striker Victor Sikora at the end of the season.

The Magpies boss has been in lengthy discussions with the Dutch club, and missed their 1-0 victory over Leicester on Saturday to watch the Dutch international in action during a 2-1 win against De Graafschap.

It is expected that Sikora, a small but pacy player who can operate on either flank, will be joined by three other close season signings, with Robson having already identified his targets. He said: "We know what we want, the transfer market is very competitive and we have to be sure that we are buying quality. We cannot afford to take any risks or gambles on players who might not perform. The Board understands the situation and they will tell me how far I can go. To move to the next stage at this club, I've got to buy quality!"

Negotiations between The Magpies and representatives from Vitesse are said to be at an advanced stage, though Robson refuses to divulge exactly when the signing will be completed. "I don't want to talk about targets and alert other clubs," he added. "But I can't disguise where I've been. I was on club business and all I will say is that we know what we want and we have to decide whether we can get it."

Wonder who the other three are?

I've got a feeling that Sikora is going to be the left winger for next season, similar to Overmars.

Other three could include the Russian centre back and Bridges?

Still leaves room for improvement at left back and possibly central midfield.

Remember Robson's formation against Manure on the first day of the season with three up front?

I wonder if he sees that as the way forward but he hasn't has the personnel to do it this season?
