The Election and Mr I Ferguson

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

The election forms for the fans commitee arrived this morning. There are 16 candidates in the :General : catergory of which our Mr Ferguson is one. So don't forget to vote ASAP

Also noticed that there is only one :Ethnic minority: candidate and One candidate in the :Bring a kid with them :catergory. Perhaps Mac should have gone into one of those catergories instead (he is Scottish isn't he)

I left the voting form at home, but remember seeing a certain Mr I Gilmour in the general catergory. Anyone on here have a list, so we can discus who we should or should not be voting for?

For a minute there I was wondering why Glenda Jackson would want the post! Maybe she is not very confident about the election.

I think I'll vote for Short Lucy stones. in the " height challenged" catergory.

Exam question says in not more than 100 words explain why you should be elected to the committee. Very carefully I ended up with the following 98 ....

Born and raised on Tyneside I have followed Newcastle from wherever work has taken me, currently Dunfermline. I have a seat in the Family Enclosure with my son Ben, a three hour train journey down and back for each home game. I wrote monthly contributions in The Mag during its first ten years. I have a great sense of history of the club and a burning ambition to improve things. I am an excellent listener and a clear thinker, I would bring a fair minded and calming influence to the group. For further details please look at www.fergs.net

The scene@stjames's magazine carefully shows two lines of this, that they chose. Useless buggers.

Which two lines?

and how many in each category do we vote for. Also how many of the GENERAL catergory go through? And why didn't you stand for the "bringing child under 14 with you" category as there was only one in that section.

Well scanning through the mugshots on my ballot paper I won't be having any of them round for cocktails at Dread Hall, I can tell you. What a rogues gallery! If you ever go to a working mens club where they have a board with photos of the committee posted up on it, it reminds me of that. I'd better not let the kids see it, they'll have nightmares for weeks.

As for voting for any of them, surely the democratic process has been fully discreditted and we should instead march on the club shop and put a slice of turf on top of the statue of Wor Jackie. That'll show 'em.

You would get more votes if you said "I shall campaign to rid the club of Gary Speed & Bartfink & ask them to put more barmaids on"

I haven't got mine yet but then again I only told them of my change of address 3 months ago.

Mac - am I too late to make some comments on the issues raised on your website? I've been meaning to for weeks but haven't got around to it.

And does anyone know - can only ST holders vote? What about us P/T, overseas supporters?

LT, I want people to continually make suggestions to me !! There has been a long time between the start of the and now. So comment away !.

I'll try to get something to you tomorrow. Cheers

Mabeth, why not state on your web page that WHEN YOU ARE ELECTED, you will put details of all meetings on the site, so that everyone knows what goes on at these meetings?

Rik

dodgy one, I feel that I should, but it could well be the first fight we have, how does it report back ? The original report suggested every means possible except through the internet, which was very strange. (Match day programme 15%, scene@stjames 18%, local press 15%, club website 15%, local radio/TV 10%, fanzine 8%, public meetings 7%, unofficial websites 3%, all of these 10%).

I am all for freedom of information, and really the whole exercise is to try and improve the clubs relations with its fans. I cannot conceive of having a meeting and then coming on here and saying something along the lines of "can't tell you what happened until the club say so".

I fully understand the need to have agreed minutes, but I think that just means the meeting has to conclude with an agreement on what was said. Even if I come away with agreed bullet points this has to be better than waiting too long for word perfect 'official' releases.

Comments ?

It has to be completly open, so that fans will believe that it's a fans commitee. Not just a PR exercise for NUFC.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2001

The problem is likely to be that the Board will feel it is precisely that - a +ve PR opportunity - while paying lip service to real supporter involvement. IMO we simply have to get Macbeth elected so we will know precisely what happens.

I'll be surprised if there aren't attempts to manipulate the Agenda the Minutes and the information flow, but time will tell.

Macbeth - who will chair these meetings? This is important.
