goat castration

We are getting 2 bucks that are 6 months old. Is that too old to use the Elastrator for castration? Thanks

See the thread above about elastrator castration. I really don't think that two hours of agony, such that the animal cannot even stand up, is humane. The skillful use of a knife may be a little harder on you but it is a lot easier on the goat.

In the above answer to castration we were not talking about 6 month old kids, but adult animals. With vaccination for tetanus, and checking the bands each weekend, rubber band castration for 6 month olds is perfectly fine. If you are worried about the pain part you can give some banamine, which can be used for disbudding also.
